The Lighthouse
A lighthouse is a refuge for weary travelers. It is a light that shows the way to ships and boats on the ocean. My wife loves a lighthouse and one of her favorite activities when we travel is to go and look at lighthouses. For many years we would travel to the coast and go seek out a lighthouse. The bible talks about a lighthouse also and the light is always Jesus. I love the old gospel song that talks about the lighthouse and my mom loved it also. It told us that Jesus is the lighthouse and just has a way to lift the spirit.
Without a lighthouse ships would wreck, sailors would perish and the precious cargo would sink to the bottom of the ocean. A lighthouse is significant to ships just as Jesus is significant to mankind. He lights the way for us to keep from getting lost. He shows us through his grace and mercy that salvation for our souls can be attained by seeking his light. Just as a lighthouse is built strong on a firm foundation to withstand storms, tornadoes and Hurricanes, Jesus helps us to withstand live storms, tornadoes and hurricanes. He is the foundation of light and strength that holds us together and makes us strong when facing tough times.
Jesus spoke about being the light of God, the way to heaven and a protection against life storms. As the lighthouse projects its beam out into ocean darkness to light the way for weary travelers. Jesus sends his light into the world to piercing the darkness of this world to shine the way for mankind. He offers us the opportunity to walk to his light, to accept his light and be with him forever. As Christians we are supposed to be a light to others in the world. We are to shine our light and show that love, patience, kindness and grace are accomplished by being part of Jesus.
1- Do you project God’s light around you to others?
2- Do you seek God’s light in your life by praying, reading and seeking his counsel?
John 8:12, Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Psalm 43:3, Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!
Lord, please be my lighthouse. Shine your light upon my face, my heart and soul. Teach me how to be a light for the world so that I can also be a lighthouse of hope, faith and encouragement for the lost and needy. Amen
